The number of Indian international students grew exponentially from 2015 to 2019. During this period, from 31,920 in 2015 to 138,595 in 2019, this growth reflects the increasing popularity of Canada.
A notable dip to 80,875 students in 2020 is evident, correlating with the global pandemic. And By 2021, numbers surged to 169,310, and further skyrocketed to a peak of 278,160 in 2023.
The number dropped to 159,510 as of October 2024, a significant decline compared to 2023.
Possible reasons for this decline include:
- Tightening of student visa scrutiny due to increasing cases of fraudulent applications.
- Shifts in Canadian immigration policies, potentially reducing opportunities for permanent residence.
