Work While You Study in Canada – Work On Campus
International
students in Canada may be eligible to work on campus while completing
their studies. This provides valuable work experience, extra income, and
opportunities to get involved in campus life — all without a separate work
permit.
Who
Can Work On Campus?
You
may work on campus if you:
- Are a full-time
post-secondary student at an eligible institution (university,
college, CEGEP, or vocational program).
- Hold a valid study
permit that includes a condition allowing you to work.
- Have a Social
Insurance Number (SIN).
If
you are in your final semester part-time, but were full-time in previous
semesters, you can still work unlimited hours on campus.
Where
Can You Work?
“On-campus”
means any location within the institution where you study. You may also work:
- For your school itself.
- For a faculty member.
- For a student
organization.
- For a private business
or contractor that operates on campus (such as a café or bookstore).
- As a teaching or research assistant, even at facilities off-campus, if directly tied to your research.
Who
You Can Work For
Eligible
employers include:
- The school or
university.
- Faculty members.
- Student-run
organizations.
- Yourself, if you run a
business physically located on campus.
- Private companies offering on-campus service.
Why
Legal Guidance Can Help
While
on-campus work is more straightforward than off-campus work, conditions must be
met carefully. Our law firm ensures international students maintain valid study
permits, understand their rights, and comply with immigration regulations.
