New Temporary Public Policy: 2-Year Work Permit Extension for Manitoba PNP Candidates

Great News for MPNP Candidates in 2025! If your work permit is about to expire—or has already expired—you may be eligible for a 2-year work permit extension under a new temporary public policy introduced to support Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) candidates.

Starting April 22, 2025, eligible applicants can request a support letter from the province and apply for this extension. This public policy remains in effect until December 31, 2025.

Who Qualifies for the Work Permit Extension?

To benefit from this policy, you must meet all the following eligibility criteria:

– You currently hold a work permit that expires in 2025, or, You held a valid work permit on May 7, 2024, and Applied for a new work permit or an extension, or, Were authorized to work under specific IRCC regulations and have a pending or approved extension.
– Also, you must have a valid Expression of Interest (EOI) profile with MPNP from January 15, 2025, onward.
– You have been living in Manitoba since before January 15, 2025, and have resided continuously in the province.
– You are employed in Manitoba and have a letter from your employer confirming your employment.
– You intend to permanently settle in Manitoba as a PR applicant.

Why Is This Policy Important?

This temporary measure offers critical support to skilled foreign workers who are actively contributing to Manitoba’s economy while navigating immigration. With increasing delays and limited draws in 2025, this policy provides a vital bridge for candidates awaiting MPNP nomination or federal PR processing.
