Express Entry- French Category: Latest Trends & Predictions

If you know French language and looking for suitable PR options in Canada, there’s some promising news for you. Among the many changes happening within Canada’s Express Entry system, the French category is showing a unique and encouraging trend.

While many immigration streams are seeing reductions in intake, the French category is one of the few that is actually expanding. Let’s take a closer look at what’s happening and what you can expect in 2025 and beyond.

The French-speaking category of Express Entry was introduced in 2023 as part of IRCC’s new category-based selection draws. That year, only 8,700 candidates were invited under this stream. But by 2024, the number more than doubled, reaching 23,000 invitations.

In terms of CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) scores:

  • In 2023, the scores ranged from a low of 375 to a high of 486 across six
    draws.
  • In 2024, the range widened, with the lowest score dropping to 336 and the
highest at 478, over eleven draws.

This significant growth in both the number of draws and the volume of invitations highlights the Canadian government’s increasing focus on French-speaking immigrants.

What’s Happening in 2025?

So far in 2025,

IRCC has already conducted three French category draws in 2025, inviting a total of 18,500 candidates. The CRS scores for these draws were 428, 410, and 379. This shows a continued commitment to welcoming French-speaking immigrants. While the overall immigration levels for many streams are declining, the French category is not only staying strong—it’s growing. The number of invitations so far in 2025 is already surpassing the 2024 total, and we’re only partway through the year.

Canada has a national goal of supporting and growing its French-speaking population outside of Quebec. This makes French-speaking applicants particularly valuable in the eyes of Canadian immigration policy.

If you’re a French-speaking temporary resident or someone considering Canada as a permanent destination, this is your moment to prepare. The selection is becoming more competitive, and being ahead of the curve with a well-prepared profile can give you a strong advantage.
