Important Immigration Update: November 2024

Navigating the Canadian immigration process requires staying informed about regular updates, policy changes, and draw outcomes. November 2024 brought significant changes in the immigration scenario in Canada. There were some important updates by IRCC regarding new policy and policy changes. This article highlights the key updates of November, 2024.

Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) EOI Draws

  • November 8 Draw:
    • Skilled Worker in Manitoba: 89 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAA) issued.
    • Special Consideration: National Occupational Classification NOC 60030 (Restaurant and Food Service Managers).
  • November 22 Draw:
    • Skilled Worker in Manitoba: 41 LAAs issued.
    • Special Consideration: Close relatives of Canadian permanent residents or citizens.
  • International Education Stream: A total of 353 LAAs issued across both draws.
  • Skilled Workers Overseas: A total of 60 LAAs issued.

 

Regional Immigration Initiative

The Manitoba government has introduced a three-year West-Central Immigration Initiative in partnership with seven rural municipalities and Gambler First Nation.

  • Objective: To address local labour market needs and support community growth through immigration.
  • This program reflects a growing trend of newcomers settling in rural areas and builds on the success of previous regional immigration initiatives.

 

Express Entry Draws

  • Six draws were conducted in November 2024 across four streams/categories.
  • A total of 5,507 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued for permanent residence.
  • Draw sizes remained consistent with October, despite more frequent draws.

Policy Changes

  1. New International Student Program Regulations (Effective November 15):
    • International students can now work up to 24 hours per week off-campus while their classes are in session.
    • From November 8, 2024, students must apply for a new study permit to change schools at the post-secondary level.
  2. Program Endings (Effective November 8):
    • Student Direct Stream: No longer available.
    • Nigeria Student Express: Discontinued.

Additional Notes

  • Reduced Immigration Plan (2025-2027): Announced on October 24, 2024, this plan may affect application processing times and selection rates.
