Manitoba Regional Immigration Initiatives

Manitoba’s Regional Immigration Initiatives are community-based pathways developed under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) to help address labour shortages outside Winnipeg. These initiatives are created through partnerships between the Province of Manitoba, local municipalities, economic development organizations, employers, and settlement agencies to attract skilled workers who intend to live and work in specific regions of the province.

Unlike general provincial immigration pathways, regional initiatives focus on the unique economic needs of participating communities. Eligible candidates who demonstrate the skills required by local employers and a genuine intention to settle in the designated region may receive community support or endorsement as part of the immigration process. Applicants invited through a regional strategic recruitment initiative can also receive additional points in Manitoba’s Expression of Interest (EOI) system, improving their chances of receiving an invitation to apply for provincial nomination.

Morden’s Community Driven Immigration Initiative (MCDII)

The Morden Community Driven Immigration Initiative helps skilled workers who wish to establish themselves in the City of Morden. The program is intended for applicants who may not already have a strong Manitoba connection but possess the qualifications and work experience needed in the local labour market. Depending on the applicant’s circumstances, the initiative may require an exploratory visit to Morden before providing community support.

Winkler-Stanley Economic Development Corporation (WSEDC) Pilot Immigration Initiative

The WSEDC Pilot Immigration Initiative supports employers in the City of Winkler and the Rural Municipality of Stanley by identifying skilled workers for occupations experiencing labour shortages. Eligible candidates are assessed based on community-specific criteria, labour market demand, education, language ability, and work experience. Applicants who receive a community endorsement may proceed through the MPNP, although final nomination decisions remain with the Province of Manitoba.

Pilot Immigration Initiative

Manitoba continues to collaborate with regional communities to develop pilot immigration initiatives that respond to evolving labour market needs. These pilot programs allow participating communities to recruit skilled foreign workers for occupations experiencing persistent shortages while encouraging long-term settlement outside major urban centres. Eligibility requirements and participating occupations may vary depending on the specific pilot and community.

Immigrate Parkland

Immigrate Parkland serves communities within Manitoba’s Parkland region by helping local employers attract and retain skilled workers. The initiative focuses on supporting regional economic growth while connecting qualified candidates with employment opportunities and settlement resources. Applicants are expected to demonstrate both employability and a genuine commitment to building their future within the Parkland region.

Brandon–MPNP Immigration Initiative

The Brandon–MPNP Immigration Initiative supports employers and skilled workers in Manitoba’s second-largest city. Working alongside the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program, the initiative helps address local workforce demands by identifying candidates with the education, skills, and experience required by Brandon’s growing economy. It also promotes successful settlement through collaboration with local employers and community organizations.

West Central Manitoba Immigration Initiative

The West Central Manitoba Immigration Initiative is designed to strengthen economic development across several rural municipalities in western Manitoba. Participating communities work together to identify labour shortages and support skilled workers who intend to settle permanently in the region. The initiative emphasizes long-term community integration while helping local businesses fill critical workforce needs.

Northwest Manitoba Immigration Initiative

The Northwest Manitoba Immigration Initiative aims to attract skilled workers to communities in Manitoba’s northwest region where employers face ongoing labour shortages. The initiative encourages newcomers to establish themselves in the region by connecting them with employment opportunities and community support services. By promoting regional settlement, the program contributes to economic growth and helps strengthen communities across northern Manitoba.
