MPNP Procedural Fairness Letter (PFL): Changing Employers After Receiving an MPNP Nomination

Receiving an MPNP nomination does not necessarily prevent a nominee from changing employers. A nominee may choose to accept a better employment opportunity, but the change should not undermine the conditions or eligibility on which the nomination was granted.

The MPNP requires nominees to report employment changes, including an intention to change employers, while permanent residence is being processed.

Official MPNP information

A new job may be reasonable where it offers career advancement, better wages, improved working conditions or a stronger opportunity in Manitoba. However, the nominee should continue to demonstrate an intention to live and work in Manitoba and should keep documents relating to the new employment.

However, we strongly recommend avoiding a change of employer during the entire permanent residence process whenever possible. If the nomination was based on ongoing employment with a particular Manitoba employer, changing jobs may result in additional review, requests for information or questions about whether the applicant continues to meet the conditions under which the nomination was issued.

The MPNP may withdraw a nomination before permanent residence is granted if it is no longer satisfied that the nominee continues to meet the applicable nomination requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change employers after receiving my MPNP nomination?

Possibly. A nominee may accept another employment opportunity, but the impact depends on the basis of the nomination and whether the applicant continues to meet MPNP requirements.

Do I need to inform MPNP?

Yes. Employment changes should be reported to MPNP in accordance with its instructions.

Should I change employers during my PR process?

Where possible, we strongly recommend maintaining the employment on which your nomination was based until the permanent residence process is completed.

Will changing employers automatically cancel my nomination?

Not automatically, but it may trigger a review if the change affects the basis of your nomination.
