On March 5, Immigration,
Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held the first Express Entry draw
for a new category targeting senior-level talent with Canadian work experience. 250 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were issued and the minimum Comprehensive
Ranking System (CRS) score required was 429.
This new category selects candidates based on their work
experience in a short list of eligible occupations: physicians, senior
managers, and researchers. All three require at least 12 months of full-time
(or part-time equivalent) Canadian work experience in the past 3 years, but
this does not need to be continuous.
Who is
eligible?
– Physicians who are general practitioners, specialists in
clinical and laboratory medicine, and surgeons are all high-skilled TEER 1
occupations.
– For senior-level candidates, Express Entry has selected
senior managers in construction, transportation, finance, health, education,
and business services, which are TEER 0 occupations.
– Researchers who qualify can include university professors
and lecturers, as well as post-secondary teaching and research assistants.
This new categories indicates a move towards targeted selection in Express Entry, focusing on those with Canadian experience in important occupations. A&M Canadian Immigration Law Corporation can assist in assessing eligibility, identifying experience in qualifying occupations, and creating a plan to increase your chances of being selected.
