First Express Entry Draw of 2022 Targets PNP Candidates
with CRS Cut-Off of 808
On January 5, 2022, IRCC kicked off the new year with Express Entry Draw #213, the first draw of 2022, focusing exclusively on
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. In this round, 392 Invitations to
Apply (ITAs) were issued, and the minimum CRS score required was 808.
This high CRS cut-off is expected in PNP-specific draws
because candidates who receive a provincial nomination automatically gain 600
additional CRS points. That means most invited applicants already had a base
CRS score in the 200+ range before their nomination was added.
This draw clearly
showed that provinces were playing a leading role in Canada’s immigration
strategy at the start of 2022. By targeting PNP candidates, IRCC prioritized
applicants who had already been selected by a province based on local labor
market needs.
