For the Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway, there is no published MPNP
rule stating that an employee must physically work from the employer’s office
every day. The key issue is whether the employment is genuine and eligible
Manitoba employment, and whether the applicant is an employee rather than
self-employed or an independent contractor. MPNP specifically excludes
self-employment, owner-operator work, and independent-contractor work from
qualifying Skilled Worker in Manitoba work experience.
Working from home for a Manitoba employer may qualify if the employment
relationship is genuine with a Manitoba employer and all other MPNP requirements are met. However, it is subject to the MPNP officer’s discretion.
However, simply living in Manitoba while working remotely for an employer located in another province does not necessarily make the job Manitoba employment.
